Matt Pontin and his partner, Tara Madigan, packed up their bicycles and camping gear last week, prepared to begin their 6,300 kilometre journey (on July 15th) from BC to Nova Scotia. The purpose of this two-month (100 kms. each day) trek is to raise money for the Mully Children's Family Charitable Foundation.
Matt is the son of Moe Pontin and Barb Reed, who will be following them by car. Matt and Tara attended Trent University. They were inspired by Arvid Loewen, a grandfather who has chosen to perform a similar ride across Canada for MCFCF, and to establish a Guiness Record. Matt and Tara have a website called [Mattinmotion.com] where anyone and everyone may contribute to their effort. Please make a point to visit their website to learn more about this project and about Matt and Tara. Follow this amazing journey using the GPS tracker (below) and by following the videos and written posts on Matt and Tara's blog. See lots of fabulous photos and videos, and read about the worst storm in the world, ever! Moe, Barb, Matt and Tara sleeping in 3-5" of water. And, of course, hear really cool stories of the response being received from people all across Canada, so far! And ... you can make a donation! :) |
AUG-9TH - Barb e-mailed from Terrace Bay info centre, raining but warm, making good progress ... thanks for support!
UPDATE - AUG-5TH: Matt and Tara are making extraordinary time in their cross-country bike trek. At 4:30 p.m. today they were passing through Borups Corners, a little place about 50 kms. southeast of Dryden, ON, and about 300 kms. out of Thunder Bay, on the north shore of Lake Superior. |
