OUR WELL IN BANGLADESH
Thanks to your generosity [Walk-A-Thon], we have been enabled to send enough money through NCMC to have a deep-well built and provided as part of a large well project for the (Chapai) Nawabganj, Naogaon and Dinajpur areas of Bangladesh. Can we build another?
BANGLADESH: The recently funded deep tube well by the Cedardale Church has now been assigned a location. This well will be part of a large well project for the Chapai Nawabganj, Naogaon and Dinajpur areas of Bangladesh, in the north-western region of the country. The well will be installed on church property (if possible) and the water will be made available to all of the community without discrimination.
Rev. Elaine Bumstead, Director of International Projects for NCM Canada, has already ordered the plaque for the well and she has requested that she be able to visit the well within the next year. Bangladesh is a country in South Asia, in the north-eastern part of the Indian subcontinent, which is washed by the Bay of Bengal of the Indian Ocean. The country borders with India in the west, north and east, and with Burma (Myanmar) in the south-east. Most of the country is occupied by alluvial lowland plains with elevations less than 10 m above sea level within the overall delta of the Ganges, the Brahmaputra and the Meghna (Jamuna), which is flooded almost every year. A relatively elevated area is the Chittagong hills (the highest point of the country is the Modoc-Mual Mountain, 1003 m), which is less than one tenth of the land area. Along the eastern and northern borders with India are low hills Madhpur whose height does not exceed 30 meters. In the south-west of the country, vast mangrove swamps of the Sundarbans are situated. Bangladesh occupies an area of about 144.000 square kilometers. |

THERE IS NEVER ENOUGH CLEAN WATER
Report from NCMC - February 2013 "There is never enough clean water, and our people use the nearby fish pond. … We have watched as young children in our families die because of the polluted water" reported a pastor in rural Bangladesh. Recently NCM Canada provided funds for a well located on the property of the Church of the Nazarene in that community. The pastor later sent this report; "When deep set tube well installed in the church property, our (Christian) people are collecting water from this well. Before this, women collect water from two km distance. All the village community people are very happy to get the opportunity to have clean drinking water available to them. We have a Child Development Centre here run by Church of the Nazarene with sixty for children. Children also getting pure drinking water from tube well. In the church compound we have a big plot, cultivating various types of vegetable selling to the market and earning small amount of money for Church. Church people are irrigating and watering to the vegetable garden. In my observation village people and children who once were infected with skin disease and water borne disease, after using this clean water the diseases are decreasing day by day. People are praising to Lord for the well, giving thanks to those who provided the funds!" |
